8th December 2024
We welcome you all to our service today whether you are joining us online or later on YouTube.
It is the second Sunday in Advent and our monthly Hybrid Service, which can be viewed in the Sanctuary or via ZOOM in the comfort of your homes. Our own Rev Ray Vincent will be leading the service.
We pray that, through him, we may be made aware of God’s message to us all.
Tea and Coffee will be served in the Hall following the service and Handmade cards, for ALL occasions will be available in the hall.

Church Family and Pastoral News
We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week:
- Sue Ruck has settled in to her new home and is now looking forward to seeing her family over Christmas.
- We think of Anne Coles whose brother-in-law sadly passed away on Tuesday, after a spell in hospital.
- We think of those for whom today holds sad memories.
- There are several people who are unable to worship with us because of illness or family responsibilities. A phone call or visit would let them know they are not forgotten!
Birthdays
There are two birthdays that we are aware of this week both on Monday 9th December. Jean Davies and Marilyn Edwards will hopefully both be celebrating; we send our good wishes to them.
Thanks….
…..from Marcia. Many thanks to everyone who sent me cards and messages on my birthday, also thanks to the Park Ramblers who serenaded me in 3 languages! My church family helped make it good day. Marcia.

Christmas Greetings
Being in a new home we have had to adjust and make changes this year!
As usual, we have our ‘Greetings Board’ in place, it is in the hall. We suggest, as we aim to be eco-friendly, that you write one generic card for the ‘church’ friends you see frequently and pin it on the board then give a donation to the charity of your choice. If you wish to send cards to church friends that’s fine, but sadly, we are not able to help with this, as the ‘sorter’ is no longer available, and we have less space, although if you know of people living near the recipients then maybe they would be willing to deliver for you.
Christmas Appeal
Christmas is a time when we celebrate the greatest gift of all – the gift of love, the gift of God, come to us in swaddling clothes – so it’s only appropriate that this season is also one of sharing that love with others. One of the many ways you might give this advent is by donating to our Christmas appeal. This year we are supporting Ahla Fawda in Lebanon as our
international charity and Crwban in Treforest as our local charity. Special Envelopes are available, if you wish to gift-aid your donation, please put your name on the envelope. The appeal will close on December 29th.

St David’s Guild
Last Wednesday, Steve Logan, told us the heart-warming story of how he and other volunteers from the Fire Service personally delivered to Serbia, fire engines and other equipment that were no longer needed in this country.
This week we shall be doing Christmas craft led by our very own Colleen.
Leprosy Mission
Leprosy Mission boxes & Annual donations can be given to Margaret Morris. If you send a cheque, please make it payable to St David’s Uniting Church. Marcia will accept them if Margaret is not in church.
Safeguarding Procedures
Elders have recently been receiving updated training in Safeguarding Procedures. As a result, we are reminding everyone, of the URC guidance in this regard, which is that if you have any safeguarding concerns relating to any member of the church, you should contact Maralyn Tomlinson, Church Safeguarding Officer, in the first instance, or your elder. You should NOT try to deal with the incident yourself unless you feel there is immediate risk or danger to life, in which case, you should call the Police on 999.’

Thought for the Week
The greatest glory in living
lies not in never falling,
but in rising every time we fall.
