Local schools involvement
Coedylan, Parc Lewis, Maesycoed and Trehopcyn Primary schools, Ty Coch Special Needs School and, the young residents of The Grange have visited the exhibition
During their visits the Robeson story was explained to them – pointing out the unfairness of his treatment and the way he spent his life fighting for equality, peace and freedom for everyone. Then they went around the exhibition answering the questions on the Work Sheets. The children were very well behaved and extremely interested in the Robeson story and the other kinds of discrimination and exclusion that we are highlighting in our Voices project.
The Mencap toilet was very popular!! – they loved donning the headphones to listen to the stories that Sara Pickard had gathered .
The Creative Writing workshops with Patrick Jones and the Creative Dance Workshops with Sam and Zoe of Expressions Dance Company have been fantastic.
When Patrick Jones visited Coedylan Primary school for a Creative Writing session – he was bowled over by the children’s response – as was the Head Teacher Robert James. Beverley went to the last part of the session and listened to the children reading out their recipes for a better world – and they made her cry!
On Thursday Beverley visited 5 of the schools with two colleagues- Ryan Wood and Nick Wayland -to rehearse the children in readiness for the concert on Thursday.
On National Poetry Day – Patrick Jones came to church to give a Creative writing session for adults – Phil, Ray and Russell had an inspiring morning. Hopefully we’ll be able to read the poems they created!
